My Past |
Upon graduation, I gave up on the sports dream and chased another dream and that was to become a CEO in the business world. The reason I ever had this dream was because of a business teacher at MCHS who said she could see me as a CEO one day. That's all it took for me. I was on the fast-track as I attended and graduated from Northern Illinois University's College of Business in 2010. It took me 3.5 years to graduate, just as I wanted, and I thought that my career was about to take off. I entered the job market with high hopes and a strong desire to find a career path that I could reach my ultimate goal. While the sales positions were available it was not something I could see myself doing and with the job market dry, my parents convinced me to begin substitute teaching at my old high school. It was supposed to be a stop-gap until my career came calling.

My Present and My Future |
My stop-gap became my passion. While substitute teaching, I became infatuated with the atmosphere, environment, and possibilities working in a school created. Constantly being able to collaborate, impact the people & the youth around me, while being impacted by them at the same time. Creating positive relationships and teaching lessons about subject matters students would go on to find their passions within. Helping the growth and learning process of a young person became what I wanted to do with my time. I had always helped my former coaches when I could, but I started to coach student-athletes on the football field and basketball court. My passion only grew, leading me to enroll into Illinois State's Business Teacher Education program. I graduated with a 2nd Bachelor's Degree, Dean's List, Business Teacher Education in Spring of 2014. Last year, I completed my Master's Degree from Concordia University of Portland in Career and Technical Education.
Upon completion of my 2nd degree I was back on the job hunt. Applying to hundreds and interviewing for far less. Opportunities were rare and I wanted the right fit for me. I know this is my calling and what I am supposed to do with my time on this planet. I have a desire to teach and to coach. I understand the time commitment it takes to be great at both and I will not accept anything less than greatness from myself because the kid sitting in class, who needs to hear "you'd make a great CEO one day" deserves that from me. |
